Mumbai : The recent events that unravelled the harsh reality of life in the fiolm industry, actor Shweta Prasad Basu was caught in a prostitution racket that took place in Hyderabad.
The national award-winning actress has reportedly been sent to a rescue home.
The actress in a statement said she was out of money and hence turned to the flesh trade to support her family. Celebrities from the B’town refrain to comment on this issue but TV actress Sakshi Tanwar wrote an open letter, stating why the businessmen involved are not in the limelight like Shweta has come.
However, Bollywood’s reigning queen Deepika Padukone not only spoke in favour of Shweta but also advised everyone to not make it a scandal.
In her words, "I am nobody to comment on what she has chosen to do with her life. If that's the only thing she could do to support herself and her family, and if that was the only way she could have made money, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Also, like a lot of people have been saying, I think it’s extremely unfair that just because you know who she is, we are making it a scandal. Why are we making it an issue? And now since we know that she has this issue, why don't we step up and help her instead? Why don't we talk about the people who hired her to do what she is doing? I don't think she should be looked down upon. Rather, I think we should all get together and support her," she said.
