Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday invited the State Maritime Technical University of St Petersburg to invest in water transport and naval activities in Andhra Pradesh. The Chief Minister held consultations with the heads of the university during his tour in Russia on Wednesday. The representatives of the university have also signed an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh government on exchange of investment and naval technology between the two states.
The university works in close connection with the United Shipbuilding Corporation and Rosoboronexport and would now share its expertise with Andhra Pradesh. The university's 60 per cent of the graduates are employed in ship building activity. The university has facilities for continuous upgrading of skills of ship building professionals. It also concentrates on innovation and research in ship building and all aspects relating to the sea.
United Shipbuilding Corporation president Rakhmanov Alexey told the Chief Minister and the delegation from the state that the university is ready to have its headquarters for India in Andhra Pradesh. The Chief Minister welcomed the university's decision to have its base in Andhra Pradesh and briefed him the facilities available in the State for the shipbuilding and water transportation. “We are planning to promote inland water transportation, both passenger and cargo. The State has a good number of rivers and canals that could be used for water transportation," he said.
The Chief Minister said the government was ready to establish maritime university without delay and wanted Rakhmanov Alexey to help the government. The Maritime University is a home for 5000 students at present and scholars from the United States of America, China, France, Finland, Sweden, Germany, South Korea, Singapore, Brazil and Netherlands participate in the conferences conducted often.
The university has a course on Marine Economics and also Maritime law. Maritime law is taught with a view to familiarize maritime engineers with law and economics related to oceans said the University officials. University representatives Dikiy Alexev, Strugov Leonid and Appolonov Evgeny were present during the interaction, while Minister for Finance Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, State government advisor Parakala Prabhakar, senior officers Sai Prasad, Krishna Kishore, Ajay Jain and Lakshminarayana represented the AP government.
