The ban of ABN-Andhra Jyothy and TV9 channels have hit Parliament now. Congress Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdary raised the issue in Rajya Sabha on Thursday terming it as an action of trying to silence media in the state. She accused government of aiding Telangana MSOs and ignoring the orders of Andhra Pradesh High Court and the Union Government.
TRS Rajya Sabha MP K Keshava Rao tried to interrupt her many times citing it as the state affair. But Vice Chairman Kurien ruled out his argument saying that media broadcasting comes directly under the supervision of the Central government. Telugu Desam Party MP Sujana Chowdary raised the issue once again in Rajya Sabha this morning. Sujana told the house that after Telangana Assembly moved a resolution to take action on concerned channels, they were banned in Telangana State.
He said that Telangana government is aiding MSOs and killing the spirit of democracy. He requested the House and the Central government to intervene and aide the freedom of press usher in the country. It is said that Modi has taken the issue seriously and asked Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar to immediately resolve the issue.
It is known that the channels were banned by the MSOs of the region after Telangana Chief Minister K Chandra Sekhar Rao slammed them in Assembly for airing derogatory news on the region. Andhra Jyothy had taken the issue to the concerned officials, central government and the governor but the ban is still in place. Journalists allege that it is KCR's government behind MSOs in this ban issue.
