In a horrific incident a blogger known for opposing Islamic radicals, was killed in broad daylight in Bangladesh capital of Dhaka. As per reports Avijit Roy was running a blog named Mukto-Mona (Free-mind) and it was known in liberal secular writing in the Muslim-majority nation. The views written in the blog not goes with some people and he was brutally murdered by goons.
Avijit was hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Dhaka . The body of Avijit Roy was found covered in blood after the attack which also left his wife critically wounded. He was stabbed with sharp weapons in the head. His wife was slashed and her left hand finger was cut off. Both of them were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Avijit died at 10:30 pm.
The couple were returning from a book fair when two assailants stopped and dragged them onto a sidewalk before striking them with machetes.
Roy's family say he had received threats after publishing articles promoting secular views, science and social issues on his blog. Roy was prominent advocate of the free thought movement in Bangladesh. He was an engineer by profession, but well known for his writings in his self-founded site, Mukto-Mona.
Avijit is the second Bangladeshi blogger to have been murdered in last two years. Roy's killing also triggered strong condemnation from his fellow writers and publishers.
