Renowned Sarangi maestro Sabri Khan breathed his last at his residence in New Delhi on Monday night following a brief illness. He was 88 and is survived by four sons and 5 daughters.
“He died last night. He had trouble breathing when we took him to a hospital in Saket where doctors pronounced him dead. My father had some breathing problems," Sabri Khan's third son Kamal Sabri told. The body of Sabri Khan will be buried on Thursday.The critically acclaimed sarangi player born on 21 May 1927 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh.
In appreciation of his contribution to Indian classical music, Ustad Sabri Khan had received numerous honours and awards, including the Sahitya Kala Parishad Award, UP Sangeet Natak Academy Award, National Sangeet Natak Academy Award and the prestigious Padma Shree (1992) and Padma Bhushan awards (2006).
