The services of leading mobile telecommunications services Airtel came to a grinding halt on Saturday in Hyderabad. Right from early morning 6 AM today, the services of the telephony were interrupted due to "undisclosed" reasons and thus causing severe inconvenience to the customers. The customers are unable to make calls or receive calls or even unable to send/receive SMSes due to this and thus it spread panicking in the city.
Several customers of Airtel thronged to its outlets and showrooms in the city in order to know the reason behind sudden stopping of services. With the sudden huge turn out at outlets, police forces stepped into action to control the crowd at various outlets in the city.
It is learnt that a major "systemic failure" led to this situation where no Airtel mobile could be accessed. According to reports, Airtel was busy in preparations to launch its 4G services from Republic Day (Jan 26). For this, Airtel was doing some system integration and upgrades on the network on Saturday. While dong this over 2,500 cell sites in and around Hyderabad today, a technical snag in communication loop resulted in the complete breakdown of its services- voice and data.
