The Telangana government on Monday issued orders to implement the “creamy layer" for Backward Classes for reservations in government jobs. However, the creamy layer will not be applicable for admissions in educational institutions, for availing welfare schemes and in elections.
Those having annual incomes of over Rs 6 lakh will not be eligible for job reservations. However, income from salary and income from agriculture land will not be taken into account while determining the creamy layer. The previous governments in undivided Andhra Pradesh had tried to implement the creamy layer, but had backtracked following stiff resistance from BC organisations.
However, the Telangana government, in its orders, stated that the creamy layer was being implemented as per the SC's directions and it would be applicable only for government jobs. Orders were issued to the Telangana State Public Service Commission and collectors to implement the creamy layer.
