BJP President Amit Shah is currently on a whirlwind tour to the Telugu States. He completed the Telangana tour yesterday in which he reviewed the party's performance in opposition role as well as the ongoing membership drive. It is said that Amit Shah gave an indirect feeler to the state unit and cadre that BJP may want to severe ties with TDP going further to strengthen the BJP ahead of 2019 elections. Amit Shah did not meet TDP Supremo and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu in his tour. It is a natural expectation for the meeting to happen as BJP and TDP are allies both in the center and in Andhra Pradesh. But Shah refused to meet Chandrababu citing his busy schedule despite the best attempts of Naidu's team for an appointment. On the other side, Amit Shah is totally displeased with the state unit in Telangana. The party enrolled 8 Lakhs of new members in the ongoing membership drive while Amit Shah set a target of 35 Lakh new members. It is brought to the notice of the Gujarat Strong Man that the drive did not even begin in some places. It is reliably learnt that Amit Shah set a target of 77 Assembly seats in Telangana in the next elections.
