After yoga guru Baba Ramdev politely declined Padma Award to be announced by the Union Government on the eve of Republic Day, now it's the turn of spiritual guru and Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to join the bandwagon. Mr Ravi Shankar too gently declined the prestigious honour. While media reports were rife that Baba Ramdev's name was under consideration for Padma Vibushan, the second highest civilian award, Mr Ramdev refrained from accepting "rewards" or "awards" or "honours".
In his letter to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Ramdev requested minister to select some other deserving person. He stated that he'd like to serve nation selflessly and the award should be given to some other deserving person.
Meanwhile, Mr Ravi Shankar took to twitter to reveal the news. "Rajnath Singhji called to inform me about Padma Awards. I thank Govt for considering me. Instead of me, I'd like them to honour someone else," he tweeted.
