Mondelez International on Monday commissioned the first phase of its largest Asia-Pacific manufacturing facility coming up in Andhra Pradesh's Sri City. The factory that has been set up with an initial investment of $190 million is the seventh in India for the maker of Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolates. Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the plant.
The facility will come up in three stages and will produce 2.5 lakh tonnes of chocolates and biscuits when fully completed in 2020. In the initial phase, it will manufacture 60,000 tonnes of Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolates. On choosing India as the destination for its largest Asia-Pacific facility, Maurizio said: "The favourable business environment here, coupled with the required infrastructure, talent pool and government support attracted (us) towards India."
Mondelez International's Asia-Pacific president, Maurizio Brusadelli, said the biscuits and chocolates giant currently enjoys a 65 per cent market share in the Indian chocolate market. Citing a Nielsen report, he said the company expects to double its business here in three to five years.
