We all are aware of phobias-the fear of spiders, fear of heights, fear of speed and etc. But did you ever know that humans also fear technology? Well this might sound absurd but yes, we are scared of something that predominantly governs our modern day routines-technology. Here are 5 phobias related to technology that you probably didn't know about –
1) Selfiephobia: The fear of clicking Selfies
The thing that took over the internet as a trend is slowly becoming a phobia (thanks to all those ugly selfies floating around on the internet). Well jokes apart, with its growing popularity and induction of the word in the dictionaries, it's not hard to imagine that selfiephobia is nowadays a widely used term. People who think that selfies are just for seeking attention or that they are not good looking enough for selfies are termed as Selfiephoics.
2) Cyberphobia: The fear of computers
Hard to fathom but it is true that some people are scared of their computers or simply fear to work on their desktops. General symptoms of a Cyberphobic are – anxiety upon seeing a computer and feeling paranoid while working on one. Also, large amount of Cyberphobics are the people who think computers invade privacy and snub freedom of thought and expression.
3) Telephonophobia: The fear of telephones
The phobia of talking on a telephone is called Telephonophobia. Symptoms include paranoia and anxiety upon answering or making calls and even, texting. There have been cases in which phone ringtones have caused panic attacks and hyperventilation.
4) Nomophobia: The fear of having no mobile phone
In contrast to the above phobia of telephones, Nomophobia is the fear of not having a mobile phone. "No-Mo" means no-mobile and people who are generally addicted to their cell phones are identified as Nomophobics. Nomophobes experience distress and severe mood swings when they are distanced from their cell phones for long durations of time. Even usual things like battery drainage, poor signal reception and loss of phone can work up Nomophobes.
5) Technophobia: The fear of technology overall
The term coined during the industrial revolution perfectly fits the bill today. Technophobia is the fear of anything related to technology. It includes computers, smartphones, satellite, televisions and etc. Technophobes usually get anxious and distressed when exposed to modern technology.
