iOS 8 might have arrived on a bad note, but it has proved be quite a useful update thus far. Also, the much awaited Android L update has finally started rolling out in India, starting from the Nexus devices. While the Android still remains the dominant OS when it comes to usage, Apple’s sales have also been staggering. But since both the rival operating systems now stand face to face, one has to come out on the top. Here’s how iOS 8 and Android L face off!
While the Android L update packs in both design and operational additions, the iOS 8 is all about operations only. With the new Android, you can cast screen onto other devices without any third party apps, it shows time remaining to charge and discharge and you can control the visibility of notification on the lock screen. When it comes to the new iOS, users can now download third party keyboards, predictive text has been introduced, individual app battery usage can be seen and air drop has also been added on the Control Centre dash. There’s no doubt iOS 8 brings along a lot of functionality, but most it’s new features have been a staple in the older versions of the Android, let alone the new things the Android L packs in. So, talking about features, Android L takes a lead.
iOS 8 is nothing about new design. It brings back the same flat vector icons with the basic blue, black and white backgrounds as seen on the iOS 7. On the other hand, Android L is as much about new design as it is about new features. Android L brings a fantastic new toned down Material Design. Not only the colors are subtle, even the black background has been replaced by white. The navigation buttons have also completely changed face and definitely look better now. The notification drop down menu has also been shuffled and uncluttered.
And The Winner Is…
Android has always packed in more features when compared with any version of the iOS. And this time as well, it’s not hard to judge that Android L is the obvious winner. But iOS 8 at least packs in a lot of excitement as well.
