The Apple iPhone 6 is out and as expected, it has kick-started a frenzy. So much so that the grey market vendors are promising to deliver the phone for a baffling sum of Rs 1 lakh before it officially launches in India. According to Apple's website, the India launch is on October 17, while countries such as the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK will get the iPhone 6 as early as September 17. For the record, the pre-order starts on September 12.
While the iPhone 5S and 5C were launched in India in the very first phase, Apple's decision of skipping India this time came as a surprise. But it seems that this decision has turned out in favor of smartphone black marketers. Speaking to one such seller, we got to know that there are people who just can't wait and are pretty okay paying that astronomical sum for the iPhone 6.
Furthermore, these sellers have flooded eBay with iPhone 6 deals already. While some sellers have listed the iPhone 6 (model not specified) for Rs 1 lakh, others are being quite belligerent with the price tag. An iPhone 6 Plus (16 GB) is being made available for Rs 85,000 and Rs 90,000 as well. Mumbai's major phone markets are also quoting Rs 80,000-85,000 for iPhone 6 (16GB).
Estimated Indian Prices
A contract free iPhone 6 (16GB) is priced at $649 and iPhone 6 Plus (16GB) at $749. When converted to Indian currency, that would amount close to Rs 40,000 and Rs 45,000 (tax free). So it's not hard to deduce that these sellers will score a fortune if they even end up selling a few sets of the iPhone 6.
